Jesus is Coming

"Life is so difficult and with all that is happening in the world that if it wasn't for Jesus' return I wouldn't be able to survive." So said my building super to me the other day. I listened to him but I didn't have a response to this statement. My thoughts were what a miserable life he must have, if his only hope is the coming of a christ.

My life is pretty good. I enjoy what I am doing. I enjoy the people I meet in my day to day. I enjoy the theology that I have developed as it gives me the ability to look at life positively. Yes, the events in the world are not pleasant to watch or hear about but I am not going to allow those events to keep me from enjoying the gift of life I have been given. Nor do I need to have some outside event to rescue me from my life's existence. As I said, I have it pretty good.

The challenge, however, is what is the response to someone who believes that the only hope for their life is the intervention of this other worldly event. Someone who believes that their own life has no value, is not worth the living outside of this event occuring. How sad. How very sad to have been so dis-empowered that he has no hope for his life, for his children, other than a supernatural event that all evidence suggests will not happen.

There have always been wars and rumors of war. There have always been trials and tribulations in the world. And the world has always survived these events for better or worse, the world has survived. I cannot join in the despair of life because it seems that events point to apocalypse or global warming. Life is still a gift that I have been given.

I will continue to celebrate the gift that life is and enjoy the events in my life as part of the unfolding of that gift.
Blessings abound,
Protected Peace
